North Corktown Phase I

Greater Corktown completed the construction of 29 single family homes in North Corktown in the spring of 2006.  The homes, ranging in size from 1,300 to 1,760 ft² and featuring 2-3 bedrooms, 1.5-2.5 bathrooms, full basements and single-car detached garages, were all sold upon completion.

Financing was provided through the City of Detroit HOME program, National City Bank, Charter One Bank, Detroit LISC, CDBG

funds, and the Empowerment Zone.

The homes were designed by BVH Architecture and constructed

by Allied Building Services.  Additional landscaping was provided

in cooperation with the Greening of Detroit with funding from the

Michigan State Housing Development Authority.

Wabash Homes

Three moderate-income homes were built on Wabash Street in Corktown in 1999. These homes marked the beginning of residential investment in Area C of Corktown, which was added to the Corktown Historic District much later than the rest of the neighborhood. The homes were quickly purchased and have been stably occupied.

Clement Kern Gardens

Clement Kern Gardens is an 87-unit townhouse development that was built by Corktown Consumer Housing Cooperative (CCHC) through the State of Michigan. Construction began in 1983 and was completed in 1984.
